I read that he didn't want to do it, but he said that his grandchildren would never forgive him if he didn't play Dumbledore....so he did. It's so sad that he died...I think he played a better Dumbledore than the current one, not to say that the current one is not good too...but I just think that the first one seemed more like the Dumbledore in the books.
