He was also in terrible pain from his scar and Voldemort's nearness. In the movie it's a little less plausible, since he watches Wormtail kill Cedric. Technically, Voldemort and Wormtail are both guilty of murdering Cedric, but also technically, Wormtail performed the deed, at Voldemort's order.
