[Harry Potter Official Club] Re: WW and Mental Illness

I was thinking more along the lines of the trauma that I am sure occurred because his best friend, his brother, was murdered, along with his wife. Then he is accused of the murders, and I think also feels that he is responsible because he turned down being the secret keeper. Along with all that a boy he would undoubtedly consider a nephew (Harry) was growing up someplace else, with someone else, and he either has no clue that he exists, or considers him and evil, murdering, death eater. The overwhelming guilt sent him over the edge, not to mention the horror of being in Azkaban for 12 years. I think it is very obvious that he suffers from depression in OoTP, spending hours at a time locked in a room with Buckbeak, withdrawing from friends. Add on top of that that he seems not to care much for the consequences of escaping from Azkaban in the first place because he was so bent on revenge. I think we are looking at someone very emotionally disturbed. He was a great great man none the less, and I cried when he died, in both the book and movie.

Of course JKR told us that both Ariana and the Longbottoms were "crazy, mad, insane" (obviously all suffering from the effects of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

depressed, possibly even post traumatic stress, especially when we
first encounter him out of Azkaban in the shrieking shack. Of course
Voldemort was incredibly mentally ill. No, not because he was evil. I
couldn't even begin to name all the disorders I could come up with on
Voldy. Anyone else have any ideas?

If Sirius does have PMT I don't blame him. First he is stuck in
Azkaban then at Grimmauld Place. Once he thought he was free he is
being told that he can't leave the house. That is depressing in
itself
