[Harry Potter Official Club] Re: release jdate of hbp

Hi all,
So, I wrote this letter in response to the delay of Harry Potter and
the reasons behind it. And I was wondering if anyone knew of a public
forum where I could post this message or send it to Warner Brothers.
I truly believe that this delay is unacceptable, and if we band
together maybe it will change.
But if you're wondering I've posted the letter after this note.
Thanks,
K. Moton

"Okay, I have done a lot for the love of Harry Potter. I have
gone to bookstores at midnight, just to be among the first to have
the book in my hands. I have stayed up 24 hours to read the book
straight, denying myself everything beyond the absolute necessities.
I have counted down, in my head and on calendar, the passing of days
until the next film/book would be released. And I have done this all
faithfully, without complaint or hesitation, all for my love of
Harry.
But with Warner Brothers' decision to push back the date of
release for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I find myself
slapped in the face. My years of dedication Harry Potter has just
been spat upon.
One of the great things about the Harry Potter series, (no
make that the greatest thing) is that connection between the
characters and the fans. We have watched (and read) theses characters
grow over the past years. And in many cases we have grown along with
them. So Harry Potter is not just a movie character, but for many of
us, a very dear friend. And this intense connection with the
characters and the fans is what this franchise relies on.
But now we see that this connection has been cut, Warner
Brothers, with their decision, have placed themselves soundly between
the fans and the characters. By interfering with this relationship
for economic gain, they have shown that the dedicated fans of this
franchise mean nothing. They are holding out in order to make a great
financial bang, uncaring that the integrity of the Harry Potter
phenomenon is being placed at risk.
I could certainly understand the need to postpone the film
for production reasons. As much as I would hate it I would gladly
wait another year to uphold the integrity of the films. In fact, it
would be an honor. But to be asked to wait almost a year so that
school can be out, and the studio can take advantage of this
possible `blockbuster' weekend is just too much. (I don't go to the
movies for Warner Brothers, I did not read the book for Warner
Brothers. I DID NOT fall in love with Warner Brothers. And I
adamantly refuse to wait for their sakes.)
I am sure many can recall where they were when first they
read The Sorcerer's Stone or Prisoner of Azkaban. We could all take
delight in or growing feelings of love and wonder as we began to
explore this wonderful new world. And I say new because for a long
time there has not been anything like this series. Like the Pied
Piper, children were drawn to witness; entranced in this movement.
And J.K Rowling led us all on this magical ride.
But now we find that this ride has come to a most resounding
halt. The Piper has vanished and left us all, his children, to
languish in an unfamiliar woods. I cannot believe that J.K. Rowling
would abandon us like that. And in my heart I have every faith that
she had nothing to do with this decision. After all, she loves this
series as much as we do; and it is my belief that she loves us, the
fans, too much to even consider this move. But as the author of the
books her job is done. And this is where the problem arises.
The Piper is dead, and has been replaced by studio execs in
business suits. They offer us trickery instead of magic and vague
promises instead of loyalty. And with this action Warner Brothers has
tainted the Harry Potter movie series.
I have had a long-standing tradition to watch the Harry
Potter movies on the first day that they come out. But I have
absolutely no interest in watching a Warner Brothers money-milking
stale mockery production of a character that I love. So I will not
see it on the first day, or in the first week. The theatre will dry
up of your production before I would allow myself to taste of your
bitter offerings.
And so I would like to thank Warner Brothers for
their `understanding' for how hard this delay would be for the fans.
But by placing themselves foremost with regards to this new movie, I
must regretfully decline their offer. I have no interest in Warner
Brothers. And as for Harry Potter, I have the books myself and I am
not averse to reading them; over and over again, as many times as I
want. And I can do that today."
