[Harry Potter Official Club] Re: A flaw in the plot!

It's impossible to make food out of nothing, yes. What McGonaggal did
was conjured food from a certain source, maybe the kitchen. She didn't
really "made" the food.

There's also instances on the book where Dumbledore conjured wine
seemingly out of nowhere. He said something...about it being from
Madam Rosemerta. I believe that if you have somewhere to store those
food, then you'll have a way of conjuring that food from that source.
It's like, a storage room or something.

You buy food, then you store them by, let's say, vanishing
them.Remember Bill in the House of Black? He vanished the Order floor
plan so that Harry and the rest couldn't take a peek from it. This
doesn't mean that vanished objects vanish forever. It may be that
they're just stored somewhere else, ready to be conjured for future use.

Same goes with food. As long as you have it stored somewhere else,
conjuring food isn't actually "making" it. It's just a simple case of
retrieval.
