[Bookroom] Re: getting my home library into my computer...

I am currently using Readerware, which works well for me because I can
delegate the book job to my children - they LOVE playing with the
scanner. Not all books possess a bar code, and the ISBN or title must
be typed in separately for these. Book club and other special editions
can be particularly problematic. My children usually just set these
aside for later. The boys figured out if they scan a pile in - 20-30
books or more - they then have a break to download info from the web.
If they download after scanning each book, it takes much more time
overall.

You can include as little or as much info on each book as you choose in
this database, and choose which websites that you search for information
about the books. I have high speed internet, and it still takes a long
time to upload the info if we search for a bunch of books from more than
one site, or even if we just download all the book info from Amazon. If
you have a slower connection it might be un-workable, unless you can
figure out how to filter what gets downloaded, and reduce the amount of
data (I haven't played with the program yet myself.)

I bought the version that is download-able to a Palm Pilot so i can
easily take my "booklist" with me. You can customize the program to
note if you have a good copy, or are looking for a replacement, or
whatever. I think it is well worth the money, but it was not cheap.
